Commuted Sums benefit the play area in Hutton Cranswick
Hutton Cranswick Parish Council have been awarded £7,848 in funding from East Riding of Yorkshire Council as part of Commuted Sums from local housing developments. The funding has been awarded towards purchasing new play equipment and replacement safety surfacing at the existing play area.
The play area requires refurbishment and development to keep pace with the growing population in the village and the resulting increased usage. One of the main pieces of climbing equipment was taken down a couple of years ago due to safety concerns and it has left the current play area with a lack of climbing equipment.
Councillor Russell Thompson of Hutton Cranswick Parish Council said: "The project is to provide an area which caters for not only a higher number of children but a wider variety, in that there will be more to do and it will be more engaging.
"The Council welcomed the offer and the opportunity given by the Commuted Sums Team and are delighted by the award of the monies which will greatly improve the health and wellbeing of many children. The Commuted Sums will go towards the cost of modern well designed equipment, and improvements to the surfacing of the playpark.
"There are to be two new adventure towers; an adventure Tower comprising a fireman's pole, a climbing wall, a slip-resistant decking, a den space, the re- use of the existing stainless-steel slide and safety surfacing; and an adventure Tower comprising climbing grips, a linking rope bridge, a scramble net, a den hideout, a slanted roof and safety surfacing. The ground beneath the toddler unit, the see-saw, the cantilever swing, the cradle swings and the flat seated swings are to be excavated with new hard core to assist drainage and topped with new safety surfacing. The Council's aim is to bring the park up to date for the next ten years."
Councillor Gary McMaster, East Riding of Yorkshire Council portfolio holder for enhancing communities, added: "I am delighted that we have been able to facilitate these much needed improvements for the residents of Hutton Cranswick through Commuted Sums, provided by local housing developments as a condition of their planning approval."
